Viswanathan Baskar was born in 1975 in Tamil Nadu, India. He obtained his B.Sc. in 1995 and M.Sc. in 1997 from Madura College (autonomous, affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University). He worked in the research area - "Sn-O and Sb-O building blocks in the construction of novel main group organometallic assemblies" under the supervision of Prof. V. Chandrasekhar at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and was awarded Ph.D. degree in 2003. He worked as a Research Associate in the same laboratory from 2003-2004. He joined as a Alexander von Humboldt Fellow under Prof. Peter W. Roesky at Freie Universität. Later he joined as a RSC and EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellow under Prof. Richard E. P. Winpenny at University of Manchester, U.K. In 2007 was appointed as Assistant Professor at School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, promoted to Associate Professor in 2013 and in 2016 he was promoted as Professor. He was awarded INSA young scientist award in the year 2010.
